so there are these kids that come to our youth program every week. i happened to find a video they made and thought, "i could help them make that better". so a few weeks ago i got them together and told them to dance. this is what came from it.

Baseball Stadiums

if you know me, you might know that i am a baseball fan. i love being able to go to stadiums and enjoy seeing them and watching fans. for my honeymoon last year i stopped at 5 different ball parks and enjoyed that with my wonderful wife.

this last week the Rockies were in town so we went to see them against the Braves. it was a sad game for the Rockies, but the next night they threw a no-hitter. man i wish i had been there for that game. anyway, i got to the part early and enjoyed walking around and seeing what shots i could find. an all-access pass would be so cool to get in places and see things most people don't. anyway, i hope you enjoy our day

Amy and Lewis Rawls are these tow great individuals that have become one over the last 10 days. they were married on April 10th. It was a really great day with great weather and a really fun group of people. it was a later start to the day and we met up with the bride and the girls at the hotel and jumped on the trolley to the church. the guys came later and met us at the church. it was a really sunny day so not too much shooting outside, but still a wonderful day and great locations. i really hope that you enjoy this video.

ING Half Marathon Recap

well, after 3 months of training we finally crossed the finish line. it was such a great success to be able to finish and do so with my wife and friend. we had a great day to race, it was cool and there were some rain drops, but that was perfect. we ran across the start line at about 7:10am and finished the race 2:16 later. it was fun to run with so many people everywhere. you always felt like you were passing people, but at the same time you were being passed. it was weird. the highlight of the race was having the winner of the marathon run by us at mile 11. he was on mile 24 and would have started just a few minutes before us. it was such a cool feeling to see that guy run so fast after going so far.

it is definitely something we will do again. we have registered for next year and will know what to expect from the whole experience. we had a greater purpose in running the race and that was to raise money for world vision and what they are doing to take care of the needy in the world. with your support we were able to raise close to $600. that was all part of the close to $17,000 raised by our church youth group. it was amazing.

we had some friends, kaylee and elise, run around atlanta on that morning and have a blast trying to capture the whole experience. i hope you enjoy watching it.

30 Hour Famine

every year the students at student life do the 30 hour famine. we go without food for 30 hours and learn about their part in the world. this year we learned about what it means to liveLOVE. we had drew come in and share about his non-profit organization called projectlivelove.com and that was really special to hear him share his heart. it was a great weekend. here are some of the things we got to do.

last weekend i got to go to NYC with my amazing wife and got to see what the city is all about. i have to say that i absolutely loved it. it was cold and rainy for all the days that we were there, but regardless it was really fun. we spent so much time in the subway system and i have to say that i truly love that. i wish we had something like it here in atlanta. one day i would love to live in a place like that.

today was a great day. i got to the office and got some work done. the place looks great after the famine this weekend and it is way easier to come in there and feel like you can work in an organized and clean space. then i got to go to the new soccer complex up in sugar hill. that was so awesome. we played there a lot longer than i should have and had a blast with all my new friends. it felt great to score a goal too. it was a nice one. i still got it.

The Longest Run to Date

well well well. i can't believe it, but today was the longest run that i have ever had. i ran almost 11 miles with my wife at my side. i was so proud of her. she did so good. 2 hours or running seemed so far off and something that was so impossible, but today we proved that we could do it.

it was not easy by any means, but we were able to complete the task and move through it. my feet definitely felt the distance and my calves were feeling pretty tight, but everything else did just fine. i thought that maybe my knees would be hurting, but it felt decent. i am so excited to be able to run through the finish line with my wife by my side. i know there is no way i could do this on my own. i love her dearly, so much.

thanks babe for being right there by my side and i hope that i have helped you accomplish something great too.

today was one of the first days that we had some warmth in the SE. i loved it. we went to church this morning and we had a great time with the middle schoolers at the Wire. it was awesome to be there and get them set up for their time of worship with christ. it was so great to have the band be flexible and replay their song we started the morning with.

after the NYC missions meeting it was off on a 10K run and that with my amazing wife at my side. it was a hard run after being so stiff and sore from friday's run. i have to figure out how to recover from the run quicker. it was a run that lasted over an hour and it was a good one to be able to run with my wife. she did so great. it was only half of what we were going to run on march 21st at the ING half marathon in atlanta.

we will see how it goes. i think we are going to do great. stay tuned for a great video that shows the inspiration behind running the race.

well well, it seems like the warm weather is finally returning to SE. i cannot wait to leave the house and be able to drive with the window down. the time for cold weather has passed and we are moving to sunshine.

this has been a great week. we just got our nike+ sportsbands and they are awesome. the nike online site is great and gives you a great idea of what you are trying to accomplish throughout the week and leading up to the race. we are almost a month away and i am excited for it. i really feel like i am behind in training for the race, but i know that as the weather continues to warm up, it will be easier to run and stay off the treadmill.

well, i hope the rest of the week's runs are better than yesterday. that was a joke. felt like crap yesterday and had to cut it short before SHIFT started. so anyway, i gotta go and eat some lunch. i'm hungry.

The Green Card Party

well, this was the party of a life time. i was finally celebrating my approval for my green card. it was so fun. as you can imagine all the people that were able to make it wore green and made the whole night pretty special. hang in there for the big group picture. thanks to all that made this possible. especially my wife and shel and karen omi.

wow, i can't believe it's been 6 weeks since we started this crazy idea of running in a half marathon. i can honestly say that after the last run yesterday afternoon where i ran 4.2 miles at medium speed, i feel really good. i think that i am starting to love it more and more. i actually enjoy going out and running for an hour. that is not something that i would have been able to say a few weeks ago.

there are 2 factors that continually motivate me. 1. the thought that i will be running on behalf of the 25,000 kids that die every day from preventable diseases and the thought of running over the finish line on march 21st next to my wife. that thought is so awesome that together we would have been working towards this goal and then on that day getting to the finish line and completing that task. i am excited and ready for that.

well, that's all for now. i got some cross training to do later on today.

well today is thursday and we just found out that the weekend plans we had are changing, so ... that means some good running this weekend. i hope that the weather plays along somewhat. i hate being cold and then having to run in the cold is even more misrable.

yesterday was the first day that we had speed work outs. it looks like the rest of the month and next month we have these speed runs. it is sprint for 4 minutes, jog for 3 minutes. you do that a few times during your run. it was hard, but during that time i kept thinking, i want to make a difference in the world and by me running i am helping to raise money to save starving children in the world. that's why i think the 30 hour famine before the race is going to be so huge and important. i can't wait.

today i have a cross training work out and that should be fun, but right now i am feeling really tired, so an afternoon nap might be in order. that's all for now.

February 1st

today was the first day of february and it was a good day. so glad that we didn't have class and i got to get things done all day. i got to record 2 student testimonies of some middle school kids that have been part of our ministry for a while. it was really cool to hear their story.

after a day like today it was hard to start working out again today, so that means hitting it hard tomorrow in the gym. the run outside the other day was really good. it feels harder to run outside than it does on a treadmill. well i can't believe that the first month of the year is gone and we are moving really fast to the summer. i have to say that the thought of summer and warm weather is so exciting. can't wait.

01.28.2010 - 10 miles this week so far

well this is week 3 and things are getting better. this week was a long and hard week. we had a 75 minute run on sunday after the retreat so we made it monday after the retreat. there was no was we were going to run on the treadmill that long so we ran outside for 45 minutes and finished the rest of it on the mill. it wasn't too bad at all. then the next day you can imagine how stiff everything was and to have to go out again on wednesday morning to run a 40 minute run was death. there was so many times i thought about stopping and quitting, but i pushed through.

a big part of this half marathon is raising money for the 30 hour famine. it is the 2 days before the race and i am super pumped about the experience. we want to raise $1000 i think so that we can feed kids in poverty. it takes $30 to feed and take care of a kid for a month through worldvision. i want my life to count for something and i want to be able to say that i made a difference in someone's life. so check out www.30hourfamine.org and see what they are all about. tomorrow we have another 40 minute run before our 5K on saturday morning for the atlanta union mission.

well this morning as with all early morning runs, it was super hard to get up out of bed, but we did and headed to the gym. surprisingly it was not as cold or dark so that is a great feeling no doubt. anyway i got on and got going. ran pretty well and sweated alot. that always feels great. i am glad that 3 miles is getting easy to do although i do get a little bored some of the time. i try to keep going with a podcast from andy stanley. it's great stuff about being fishers of men.

anyway, i would love to see the results of working out some more. i feel like i still weigh about the same 202-204lbs and i want to knock that down a lot lower. oh well, that will come with time too i hope. so that was all for today. a 3 plus mile run in about 30 minutes. i hope to work that down quite a bit in the near future.

well we spent the weekend on a student life staff retreat this weekend. it was a great amount of fun and we simply got to be together and share a house with all the families that make our team so special. anyway, but saturday i was getting the itch to head out and run some, but because of the weather it was not gonna happen and we had to wait for sunday to do our long run or it would simply mess up the whole program. so my sunday morning we were up and ready to go. paige, jake and i headed out for a 60 minute run and it was perfect weather outside. i rocked to the latest one republic album and enjoyed the run. there were some bigger hills than we were used to, but we pushed through. my knees and lower back started to tighten up and then my lower back did the same. i didn't want to stop and pushed through it. the run was good and i think i felt pretty good by the end. we met a pretty cool dog we named jack and he ran the last little while with it. the national park we ran through was really pretty. it made me want to run in places like that a lot more. we're hoping for warmer weather to be able to run outside more than on a treadmill. that's all for now. i think we have some workouts later this week. adios

good morning everyone, i trust that you are all doing well this morning. it was an early one for me and my wife this morning. we got to the gym and it was still dark and in the next 29 minutes the sun made an appearance. it was so very cold still outside, but the promise of warmer weather is on the way.

i hate it when me ipod dies though. that was the case this morning which made the hill run variable setting on the treadmill a little less bearable. i guess that's the least of my concerns. we'll be heading up to the great state of SC today for a staff retreat. should be a blast, but before that i have to get some stuff done at the hizzouse (slang). anyway, i'm still trucking along and will update you guys on the long run from this weekend. wish me luck

01.13.2010 - 2.4 miles in 27 minutes

well this morning was a different morning. it took forever to wake up and then i couldn't remember why i was waking up that early. it took asking my wife and she said we planned to run this morning, oh yea, right. so 6:45am heading to the gym.

it was loud in there, there were some other crazies in there working out too. my headphones kept sliding out of my ears so that was annoying, but i made it through the 25 minute run and finished 2.4 miles. i guess that's cool, but i think i need to ramp it up a little more now. i have a bad knee that has been feeling really good the last week or so and that is really surprising.

i talked to brad last night and he is still game for the half marathon, sid, not so much. there is a small chance we run a 10K in new york in march, that would be sweet. anyway, i hope this is going to pay off soon. i would love to start losing some fat and getting excited about some changes in the mirror. not that it's the final goal, healthy living is...

i can't believe paige and i both cleared the 45 minute timed run and finished 4 miles in the process. it was a great feeling to watch her push through it and then to get to the end and high five because we both got to such a cool mile stone. i guess we just begun, but it feels good and i want to continue on. she's the best and i am so glad we're doing it together.

so after the long wait i finally ran tonight. it was a 20 minute easy run and i have to say it felt good. i got off and felt pretty good. there was a break in that the machine i was using was lame and stopped 3 minutes short because it needed maintenance. i just trucked on anyway. we'll have to see what is on the schedule for tomorrow. good night friends

01.05.10 - a new date

well today was the first day back in the office. it felt good and things were still the same. i tried to clean out a kitchen that was trashed and someone was nice enough to get started on it. then i had a conversation with my boss about the future and ministry and stuff... it was really good. i feel good about where things are right now and i look forward to a new year at SL.

well this weekend i went to passion 2010 and that was awesome. the best part was meeting my new friend, freddyT. what a cool cat. he's from NYC and i would love to go and see him soon. there are some new anthems coming in the pipeline as far as passion music. it was exciting to see brett younker on main stage. he's gonna be awesome. one of the best young leaders out there with kristian stanfill.

anyway, the purpose of this blog is to update you on my training for the 1/2 marathon in atlanta in march. well since the last blog, i have run 0 miles. walked a bunch, but not running. so this is a short blog. my wife is coming home in a few minutes and then we're heading out for a run. it's a good thing that biggest loser started again this week so that is all the motivation that i need to get going. i really hope that my legs can handle it. it would be hard to do that race in pain all the time.

ING Half Marathon

well, today was sign up day. it was the last day to do so before the price increase. it is the last day of the new year and with the 1st coming tomorrow it would mean that practice has to start soon. i'm not too sure how i feel about it right now because i have a really hurt knee. the pain is caused by what we call runner's knee. it can get really painful at times, but i hope with better shoes and some good inserts the pain will be greatly reduced.

so now that this journey is about to get started i am excited to get it going with my wife. she has really been the inspiration behind me even trying to do this. after we watched another season of biggest loser and they ran a marathon we thought we should at least try to do 13.1 miles.

well as the journey continues i hope to use this blog to let you know how we are doing. here we go i guess.

we spent the day in london this summer on the way to cape town, south africa. it was fun to be in a different country and see how different things are.

i was in downtown atlanta this afternoon and went to a caribou coffee shop and found a bottle of water. in the bottle were some cool fonts and i just thought it looked cool, but then read what the bottle said and i was really interested to find out what more they doing. it's really cool.

this is a video of all the pictures of my honeymoon with my wife from earlier this year. we road tripped from denver to atlanta and hit up MLB stadiums all along the route. in total close to 2000 miles, 5 games in less than a week. it was something i always wanted to do and could not believe that paige was up for it.
